Home description: One of a kind!!! Completely
renovated with brand new electrical, plumbing, roof, heating system,
low e double hung Pella windows, modern bathrooms, and kitchen.
This lovely home is a 1 ? Georgian cottage and is an excellent
example of Georgian architecture of the pre 1820’s era. The Georgian
style had a profound influence on England’s emerging North American
colonies. With its stripped-down decoration, understated elegance,
grace, and a formalized system of proportions it is still a very
much desired style.
It is the simplest of Georgian forms with its 1 ? storey 3 bay front
façade. It has the traditional central transomed door flanked by
a single window on each side. This stone structure has returning
eaves and its stone foundation is an astonishing 6 feet thick!
Originally the home had 4 fireplaces. Three of them remain today.
They are excellent examples of a Rumford fireplace. They are in
excellent condition … remarkably untouched by the years. Two still
have their original solid panelled screens. The fireplaces are
a rare find indeed.
The original home (having a later stone addition) still has its
pine plank floors, with some of the boards 20” wide.
A large 16 x 20 outbuilding compliments the property well. Maybe
that workshop you’ve dreamed of or a sleep house for your guests.
Combine this architectural beauty with being a 5 minute walk to
the Renowned Sandra Lawn Harbor Marina, downtown or the golf course
and you have the perfect place to spend your time.
For the History Buff:
This is your opportunity to own a piece of history. This home was
originally owned by the Jessup family, the founding family of Prescott.
Major Edward Jessup was granted the land, where he established
the town of Prescott, from the crown of England in 1797. He and
his son, Edward Jessup II laid out the lots for the town in 1810.
By 1816, both the Jessup men had died, leaving their land to Susannah
Covell Jessup, the wife of Edward the second. It was Susannah
who finalized the sale of most of the building lots in the town.
All three played a prominent role in the establishment Prescott.
The research on this home is ongoing. We will update this site
our findings as they develop. Current speculation is that this
home may have been the 1810 home that was being built for the school
master of the school being built at that time by Jessup.
