Home heating.

Forced Air
Warm air is forced through ducts by a blower; it enters a room through registers or diffusers, then returns via a cold air duct to the furnace where it is filtered of dust, reheated and recirculated.
Ducts
Warm air ducts and cold air returns that pass through cold areas (such as an unheated basement, crawl space or garage) should be insulated. Before you insulate ducts, use duct-tape to repair any cracks in the seams.

Hot Water Heating Boilers
Hot water is distributed by a pump. Radiators can be located above or below the boiler.
Radiators
Radiators should be full of water for maximum heat output; air in a radiator obstructs the water flow. If the radiator is warm at the bottom and cool at the top, there may be an air-lock in the radiator. Keep radiators free of air by bleeding them when needed, open the bleed valve to allow air to escape; close the valve when water begins to flow from it.
Start with the radiator located at the highest level in the house and repeat on all radiators, ending with the one at the lowest level.
