Home Security Tips
Survey your surroundings. Walk around your home and ask
yourself how you would break into it. What areas are most
vulnerable? Are any valuables visible? What can you do to
make your home safer? Does every exterior door have a deadbolt?
Don't forget the garage door. Most garage doors that lead
into your home are not as strong as front doors, and are
used frequently by burglars.
Plant thorny bushes in front of windows. Windows are the
second most common way of breaking into a home. Planting
thorny bushes by windows, however, will help deter a burglar
from entering. Make sure to keep all bushes neatly trimmed
to prevent intruders from hiding in them.
Check your sliding doors. Not all sliding doors are installed
correctly, allowing a burglar to simply lift the door off
its track. Place a pole in the track so that the door cannot
slide.
Install motion detectors. Lights scare off burglars, especially
when they are taken by surprise.
Make friends with the neighbors. Get to know people in the
neighborhood and have them watch your house when you are
gone for long periods of time.
